perspective l drawing f'12

The design of a Modern Art Museum starts with sketching. Concepts can originate from nature, a typeface, a texture, or even a crumpled sheet of paper. Here you can see something of the process and a few of the outcomes.

a found object l drawing f'12

This printer's roll was found in the school's Green Supply Center. The paper looks like it was discarded too. An illusion! The lines of flawed letters, streaks of dirt, and crumpled surface were all hand-drawn by graphic design student, Angela Choi.

flexibility l life drawing f'12

To be flexible is the ability to adapt to situations not in your control. It is a major component to happiness, world peace, and making art.  Since I am only qualified to address art...with flexibility comes growth. It is the willingness to change direction, to bend, to try new methods and new materials. It does not mean to give up on ones sense of self...which brings to mind a 16 year old in one of my earlier pre-college drawing and painting intensives. Her earnest response: "But I've always been doing it this way!"

With gestures, flexibility is key.
