the first sketches

"I have no experience," is the usual remark the first day of class. A quick exercise and self-flagellation is rampant. It is hard for students to fathom just how far their work can progress.

Like many this week, Cat barely made marks legible on the page. (It is not your computer, the lines are indeed very light.) Last semester, she started off with an uncertain hand, took to the lessons, practiced them at home, sought feedback, and became a powerhouse with both pencil and marker. Ultimately, what made the difference was her own perseverance.
