an introduction to self-expression | drawing s'15

With ten minutes to draw, self-doubts are given free reign: "I don't know how to draw"; "This is embarrassing"; "I'm terrible at drawing." With only one minute to draw, such punitive appraisal is left in the dust. The pace for the next 20 minutes is exhilarating. The grip loosens up on the charcoal, and lines turn both playful and sensuous. Before long, from behind layers of pinned-up gestures, the first drawing is unearthed. It bears witness to when drawing was not fun. Hard to believe that it was only an hour ago.
