"There are eight million stories in The Naked City," the narrator sums up. "This has been one of them."
An immortal movie line pops in my head, as I leaf through pages teeming with nameless New Yorkers. I can hear the muted backdrop: heels click, the rumble of a train, and some sporadic chatter. It could be the scene of a classic 1948 film noir, or more relevant - a city commute. My point: these trendy nomads - teleported to La La Land with their iPods, iPhones, or e-book readers - are not without their own compelling stories. Look for them.
