Some years ago, I learned to not control either the process or outcome of the final drawing project. It is for the student to choose. Whether or not it reflects their major course of study, the class feedback and support can be invaluable, adding to the excitement of following through on some pretty unique ideas. Two such examples are seen below:
Money envelopes are traditionally given as gifts for the Chinese New Year. This being the year of the pig, Yuxuan's interpretation not only highlights her exuberant personality, but also addresses an absence of diversity, in the U.S. card market:
"After looking through childhood photographs over Thanksgiving, with my family, I decided I wanted this piece to be an abstract self-portrait: to emphasize how my mom's unique eye for design has influenced how I connect with social spaces."
